Your Vintage Tech and Gaming Buddy
🕸️Hey there, fellow tech travelers and game aficionados! People call me The Friendly Spider, and I’m a Canadian computer enthusiast whose love for technology stretches all the way back to the Commodore PET and TRS-80 days. You’d better believe those vintage arcade cabinets hold a special place in my heart too!

Coding has always been a joyful hobby for me! From tinkering with SQL databases to making my life easier with VBA scripts, I’ve dabbled in a whole bunch of languages – assembler, BASIC, C+, and more. Sure, I might get rusty sometimes, and I even graduated with honors way back in 2003 for Website Design and e-commerce (remember when Flash ruled the web?), but I always come back to it for the simple thrill of creation. Lately, I’ve had a renewed interest in coding and even revisiting old code with the help of AI. Experimenting with AI coding assistance is just pure techno-geek fun!

OMC: Where the Clan Assembled
Gaming with buddies is one of life’s best experiences, and let me tell you, I’m a proud founding member of the OMC – the Old Man’s Clan! It all started way back with Army Men RTS, but things really blew up with Battlefield 1942’s Desert Combat mod. Those virtual battlefields hold epic memories! We even ran our own server for a while. Now that’s dedication.
I still have one domain, [invalid URL removed], though over the years I’ve lost touch with most of the clan. The site’s blank right now, but who knows, I might get it going again soon. It’d be awesome to reconnect and make new friends and frienemies!
So, Why “The Friendly Spider”?
I created the name way back in school! I had to create a business project, so I dreamt up a web design venture with me as The Friendly Spider and the motto “Building the Web One Page at a Time”. I even drew my Friendly Spider avatar then! While that business never took off, the name stuck. I love tinkering with tech, weaving together solutions, and always aim to help fellow enthusiasts where I can. Plus, a bit like a spider, I tend to build little webs of projects all over the place! 😉

What I’ll Be Blogging About
You can expect vintage computer memories, nostalgic game ramblings (including my experiences with MAME, RetroArch, and Kodi!), and reflections on the tech change revolution I’ve witnessed! Growing up when the first home computers emerged, going through life without cell phones, social media, or even the internet – it all shaped how I see technology. I’ll share stories about discovering music in a different way and explore how all these changes have impacted us. Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on current tech trends like AI too! Expect general ramblings about daily life and whatever else crosses my mind that might be interesting or informative.
